Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of Bank Statement Genie (the "Service"), a product of Very Big Machine ("we," "our," or "us"), a company based in New York. By creating an account, connecting a bank, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Bank Statement Genie connects to your financial accounts through Plaid and writes your transaction history into a Google Sheet that the Service creates in your Google Drive^™, keeping it updated on a schedule. An optional Google Sheets sidebar add-on serves as a launcher and status display.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. You sign in with your Google account; you are responsible for maintaining the security of that account and for all activity under your Bank Statement Genie account. The bank and card accounts you connect must be yours or ones you are authorized to access.

3. Bank connections and third parties

Account connections are provided by Plaid Inc. Your use of Plaid is subject to Plaid's own terms and privacy policy. The Service also relies on Google APIs and Google Cloud^™. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or acts of these third parties, though we choose them carefully.

4. Your data and privacy

Our handling of your information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms. In short: the Google Sheet the Service creates belongs to you and lives in your Drive, and we request only the minimal, non-sensitive Google scopes needed to maintain it.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the Service to access accounts you are not authorized to access;
Reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure;
Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or the terms of Plaid, Google, or other providers;
Resell or provide the Service to third parties except as expressly permitted.

6. Plans and billing

Some features may be offered on a paid plan. Where paid plans are available, pricing and billing terms are presented at the point of purchase, and payments are processed by Stripe. Unless stated otherwise, fees are non-refundable except where required by law. We may change plan pricing prospectively with reasonable notice.

7. Not financial advice

Bank Statement Genie is a data-organization tool, not a financial, accounting, tax, or investment advisor. Transaction data, including categories, merchant names, and amounts, originates from your financial institutions via Plaid and may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate. Do not rely on the Service as your sole record. Verify against your official bank statements before making financial, tax, or legal decisions.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that transaction data will be complete or accurate.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Very Big Machine and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or USD $100.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time, disconnect your banks, revoke Google access from your Google Account^™ permissions, and request deletion. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 7–9 and 11) will survive.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The exclusive venue for disputes will be the state and federal courts located in New York, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except where prohibited by applicable law.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When changes are material, we will update the "Last reviewed" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
